The 125-bed Behavioral Science Pavilion is committed to providing focused curative, rehabilitative and supportive mental health services, as well as encouraging patients and families to play an active role in the therapeutic process.
The big ambition is matched by a big facility. It is the largest provider of psychiatric care in the UAE and its modern facility is located within the SKMC campus to provide quick access to all medical services, from radiology and pharmacy to surgery and medical consultations. The integration with SKMC as a whole, and the associated social and community aspects, gives patients and their families greater confidence and motivation for treatment.
BSP operates four wards for adult psychiatry, two for male patients and two for female patients, and have been designed to treat patients requiring different severities of treatment. Patients with severe symptoms or displaying aggressive behavior will be admitted to the acute wards, where the staff are well trained and equipped to deal with such cases. While calmer patients with mild to moderate symptoms can be admitted to what is referred to as the progress ward, where they can receive their required treatment in quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
Those who have concerns about psychiatric symptoms, counseling or psychological guidance, can visit the Outpatient Department in BSP, where they will be evaluated by qualified psychiatrist who will recommend the appropriate treatment. The patient will then either be referred to a psychologist or to specialized psychiatrist.
