Emergency Services at SKMC comprises of the Divisions of Adult Emergency, Pediatric Emergency and Urgent Care Medicine, employing 81 physicians and over 100 nurses within three separate facilities in Abu Dhabi.

With more than 92,000 annual visitors, the Emergency Department at SKMC is the main public emergency department and trauma center in Capital. Providing round the clock care to adult and pediatric patients, the Department is located on the ground floor of the Surgical Pavilion with a helipad for the transportation of critically ill patients.

The ED is situated next to the Radiology Unit with easy and quick access to CT scanning and ultrasonography. It’s 44 treatment units are divided as follows:

• 18 acute care units
• 10 pediatric care units
• 10 critical care units
•   7 minor care units

In addition, consulting services are available across a wide range of medical and surgical disciplines, utilizing a 24-hour call system. SKMC’s world-class physicians in the Department have significant experience and expertise in trauma care and, together with the Surgery Institute, have made a real impact on the improvement of trauma care and its medical education in the UAE. The ED also has extensive experience in pre-hospital care as well as undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Plans for the further expansion of the Emergency Medicine will soon see the opening of a 17 bed Pediatric Emergency Room to replace the current Pediatric Area in the existing Emergency Room in the Surgical Pavilion.
