The Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology at SKMC has established itself as a center of excellence with balanced focus on patient care, education, research, and community service. The philosophy of care centers on commitment, dedication, multidisciplinary teamwork, and patient participation. The approach is proactive and patient centered.
The Division’s multidisciplinary team consists of endocrinologists, a clinical pharmacist, a clinical psychologist, diabetes educators, dietitians, and a podiatrist working jointly to provide comprehensive care for patients with diabetes and endocrine related disorders. Members of the team are highly experienced and trained in the fields of diabetes and endocrinology following the guidelines set by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American Diabetes Association, the American Thyroid Association, and the Endocrine Society.
The Division is always at the forefront of the latest technologies to provide excellence in diabetes and endocrine care. As such, the continuous glucose monitoring systems and the insulin pump program have been successfully implemented with exceptional patient acceptance and satisfaction. Diabetes education programs for patients and families are provided in the form of one to one educational sessions as well as group education. All members of the Diabetes and Endocrinology team participate in these educational sessions which are critical for the continuous well being of patients beyond hospital care. In the field of thyroid disease management, a multidisciplinary team manages thyroid cancer patients and fine needle aspiration biopsy service is continuously growing.
The number of patients treated for diabetes and endocrine disorders has witnessed a continuous growth over the last few years. Diabetes mellitus accounted for more than 50% of the cases treated by the Division.
